But several factors, such as regulations, supply chain challenges, and sustainability, are leading organizations to consider other options. Alternative chemical gas and radiation technologies that were once considered “niche” are gaining popularity in industry. One modality rising to the surface is Chlorine Dioxide. As industry works to accelerate acceptance and standardization of alternatives, it will be critical for healthcare packaging professionals to understand aspects of Chlorine Dioxide technology, including: chamber and parameter considerations, compatibility of packaging and device materials, depth of penetration, scalability, and more.
